Lincoln Park Plaza To Get An Intensive Green Roof

Curbed Chicago

Earlier this afternoon, Crain's reported that rookie developer and son of top Boeing exec Justin Palmer plans to break ground on Lincoln Park Plaza, a $3.5-million mixed-use development in Lincoln Park. Plans call for building six high-end residential units above approximately 1,323 square feet of ground-level retail space on the triangular lot at the corner of Lincoln and Kenmore avenuesMG+A Architects is the architect of record. We caught up with Robert Berg, president of Foster Design Build, the project's general contractor (and also the general contractor for the rehab next door to President Obama's Kenwood home that's gotten so much press in the past week), who sent along the elevation shown above.

The feature of the building that Berg is most excited about is theintensive green roof. "Soil will be deployed on the roof with trees, bushes and other plantings," he says, unlike the typical "block-style" planters found in most Chicago green roofs. "It's going to be like having their own park," says Berg. The developer plans to move into the 5,200-square-foot top-floor unit and rent the other five residential units initially, and then sell them in about five years, according to the Crain's story.
